Sh*t, it’s the last day already?

June 24th, 2007 No Comments »

I suppose it is time for me to use these “words” like any other teenager should: OMG!!?!OMFG!!WTF?!ZOMG!!@#$^# and what got you. Yes, it’s already the very last day of the school holidays. It seems like the school holidays started only yesterday.

I must say I am pretty much disappointed with myself this holidays. Besides not completing my school project, which I planned to, I left more than 60% of my holiday homework undone. And why? Too much hanging out with friends, too much time using my Macbook Pro when I should be studying.

Never mind, regrets don’t serve any purpose. I am going to swear that I will remain focused in Term 3 and work my way to the top five in my class for next term, and my outstanding student award by year end.

On a side note: more than 500 downloads of Advanced Login System 0.02 Beta has been recorded, and only 1 donation so far? I suppose I really must consider commercialising Advanced Login System.

Till next time,
cheers

Site update

June 22nd, 2007 No Comments »

Hey guys, I have updated the products page.

I have added the Project Extension download link on the products page. It is highly unstable and many sections are imcomplete, but if you are interested in trying it out or releasing patches for it, you are free to download it. I have also added Advanced Login System 0.03 Beta Preview to the Products page. I do recommend you to download and patch your script if you are still using Advanced Login System 0.02Beta

That’s about it, I am pretty busy today.

Till next time,
cheers

Presentation At EducationForum07

June 20th, 2007 No Comments »

Hey guys, I just came back from a rather busy day today.
Australia Tourism
I was one of the presenters at the EducationForum07 sponsored by Singapore Airlines and Australian Tourism. Don’t let the name decieve you, it is basically a conference to promote tourism to Australia in schools. Yea, and I was there to present about our trip to Outward Bound Australia, which I went about a month back. Singapore AirlinesIt was quite stressful, since I was the only presenter up on the stage, in front of about 50 high ranking people, and wearing our school uniform. So you can guess, I made quite a number of errors, and there were some problems with the video(The smaller version is below), which I actually edited wrongly, because of the fact that the event was SIA sponsored. (If you would remember the scene where I zoomed in on the Qantas Logo near the end, I actually had to remove this picture and I forgot to readjust the sound). So this caused the sound synch to go off. Also, the video to the monitor failed in the middle of the movie, probably because my laptop went to sleep in the middle of the show. Shame on you MacBook Pro! Otherwise, it went pretty well, and I recieved lots of encouraging words and compliments from the audience. So here, I would like to thank the others who helped in one way or another, even though I did the bulk of the work. =P

Yep, so that would do for today, I am going to upload my Keynote, so if you are interested in learning about my OBA experience, you will be able to view my presentation. So forgot about me writing a totally new blog entry on my experience at OBA, I am sure my keynote will suffice. You will probably need Quicktime to view it.

Till next time,
cheers

Here comes another “multiple topics post”

Well well, I wasn’t able to update you guys about anything, not because I was really busy, but because I was ,ah.. the word is occupied, yes occupied with some stuff.

Firstly, I manage to Dual Screen Layout for my MacBook Pro. I am writing this post on my secondary monitor, while running some other important applications on my laptop screen. Rather cool, but it took some getting used to, with the extra screen real estate. Wish I could show you a picture of it, but I can’t be bothered to get a digital camera from my dad.

Secondly, I have just watched the Apple World Wide Developer’s Conference(WWDC)  online on Saturday. Quite a few things mentioned, but it got pretty boring at parts, especially when Steve Jobs was doing the Leopard features introduction. It is basically the same thing that I saw on the Leopard website and last year’s WWDC. The more interesting bits came from EA, which announced July as the release date for the Mac Version of Command And Conquer 3 and Battlefield 2142 (There are 2 other games, Sims 2 and Harry Potter, but I have no interest in these). There was also a short iPhone introduction about developing iPhone Applications, which rather disappointed me. Given Apple’s reputation for innovation, surely they can come up with something better than asking iPhone developers to code applications in AJAX!For those interested, you can watch the web stream here.

Thirdly, I have installed the Safari 3 Beta on my Mac. Pretty much bugless for a Beta release, but I think it results in the crashing of MSN whenever I try to close a conversation window. Windows users, you can also get the Beta, but I wouldn’t recommend it, as lots of bugs and security loopholes has been reported. For the brave, you can get it here

I have also recently reformatted my Windows Partition on my MacBook Pro, cleaning up some stuff and turning it into a complete gaming machine. Now it contains FIFA 07,Yuri’s Revenge (my old time favourite), Battlefield 2142, Command And Conquer 3 and of course, CS:Source! Didn’t notice much performance difference, but probably because my computer is rather high end =P. I am also planning to defrag the computers

And I think I am really screwed, this is the last week of the holidays and I have not even started on my holiday homework o.0 .And I still got UGPortal to develop (and hopefully release soon) amongst other things. So I am seriously going to rush my work in this last week

Well, that’s about all, hope you guys are having a great week

cheers

A few things on my mind

Parallels Logo
Firstly, allow me to do a software review. Non mac users, please just bear with me or scroll down the page.
I had the honor of being probably the first few users to get my hands on Parallels 3.0 - The supposedly revolutionary release of the popular Parallels Desktop for Mac. If you have no idea what that is, read the following introduction from their website here.

Parallels Desktop for Mac enables you to run Windows, Linux, and more side-by-side with Mac OS X on any Intel-powered Mac, without rebooting. With Parallels’ award-winning virtualization technology, you can run Mac OS X and your favorite Windows applications at the same time. You can even drag-and-drop files between desktops!

The latest release of Parallels Desktop for Mac comes packed with 50+ new features and enhancements, including SmartSelect, Snapshots, and 3D graphics. Learn more about the new capabilities in the latest release of our award-winning product.

Sounds great huh? I have been looking forward to this release, especially with the promised OpenGL and DirectX 8.1 support that is actually rather new for Virtual Machines (VMs). In the past, VMs do not provide any form of graphic card support, so you can imagine my delight at hearing that Parallels is finally providing some support, no matter how limited, for graphics acceleration. It also promises to support HL2, which one of my favourite games (CS:S) run on, so you can imagine my delight when I got my hands on the application.

Yet, I was pretty much disappointed. Not only doesn’t CS:S work, but Parallels also screwed up my Windows system with Parallels Tools. It resulted in conflicts with my MacDrive, and I was unable to uninstall the Parallel Tools without booting my XP system from Parallels itself, which I uninstalled, thinking that it would actually solve the problem. Maybe it was my own fault, but I am seriously disappointed with Parallels. On the other hand, VMWare Fusion (Beta) seems to be better and it already HAS support for limited graphics acceleration for its VMs. When Fusion goes out of Beta and into a commerical product, it will definitely have my vote, unless Parallels do some serious debugging.

iMovie Icon
Secondly, I have just made a movie in iMovie! I am so proud of myself. It is a 4 minutes video that shows off some pictures which my friends at Outward Bound Australia took. It took me a whooping 4 hours to make, but that’s because I have never EVER used iMovie before. This gave me a chance to actually learn how to use iMovie. So below here is the movie that I have made. I know, there are a few screw ups here and there, but hey, this is my first time

Give me your feedback in the comments.

Thirdly, about my projects. I still have not finished UGPortal, which I actually planned to release in 2 days. Looks like that will have to be delayed. Damn! As for other projects, I have recieved quite some bugs report about ALS v0.03 (b) Preview about a URL redirection problem, and I will try to solve them, though please remember I am not obliged to provide support for Preview releases. On a side note, ALS v0.03 (b) seems to work fine in UGPortal. For those who have submitted bugs reports, I need you to be more specific. Which URL did the script redirect to and if you modified any code in the script. Also, please do not send me any bugs report via email, especially to my Gmail account, which is reserved for more important emails.Only do so if I have replied to you and you wish to continue updating me about the situation. Thank you.

Fourth on the list, I am actually thinking of creating my own customised skin for this Wordpress blog. I am rather ashamed to say that I have downloaded someone else’s skin and used it here, but that was because I had no time to actually create a new site on my own. So, during my december holidays, I will probably either create a new skin or design a new site on my own.

Well, I think that’s enough for today, catch you guys next time =)

Till then,
cheers
