The past week

What happened in the past week can be summarized into 3 phrases - Project Work, Foosball and Failing Results.

Project Work
Working on PW is a major pain in the ass. Especially when I have to edit the content and make the report look aesthetically pleasing. And now that everyone knows of the power of Microsoft Word 2007/2008 in making reports look impressive, I need to turn to something more powerful and complex to design my appendix into something that will blow the marker away. And of course, Microsoft Word is still a major resource hogger, unstable (eg. it won’t switch properly to the front window when using Expose) and stubborn (like how it won’t let me place images where I want to place them) as with most Microsoft products, making the experience a lot more painful than it already is. Too bad Pages from iWork 08 simply isn’t powerful enough (or maybe I just haven’t figured it out yet). I hope Apple will release something that can really match up to Microsoft Word’s standards in iWork 09.

Foosball
Need I say more? I think I am really addicted to it.

Failing Results
It’s amazing how the school have a knack for releasing all my worst results in the past week. Failed Chemistry and Math (as per expected) and barely passed my General Paper. But at least I am looking forward to next week, when I will get back my Physics and Economics papers (which I think were rather well done)

Oh by the way, check out Apple’s new Macbook Pro and Macbook. The screen and the overall design is simply gorgeous and I really lust after the new MacBook Pro. And having 2 graphics cards (one integrated for battery saving and one dedicated card for real performance) doesn’t hurt either. Especially when the dedicated card is excellent for a laptop graphics card. Check out the launch event here.

And we also having Red Alert 3 coming up real soon! I don’t see a Mac version coming anytime soon, but RA3 might just make me actually install Bootcamp again just to play it. Check out the trailers and units profile on their website!

Then of course, we have the Adobe CS4 release as well. I am considering upgrading my CS3 to Web Premium CS4 now. But it’s so god damn expensive!

And lastly, how about the new P4 TT bike from Cervelo, which sponsored the bike that the 2 time Ironman champion, Chrissie Wellington used in the recent Ironman race in Kona. Admittedly, she was still using the 2008/2007 P2C, but the P4 doesn’t look shabby either.
Cervelo P4
Sexy right? And that’s a bottle integrated into in frame near the FD. Amazing concept!

Anyway, it’s time to get back to working on PW. I am really sorry for the lack of ALS updates and I promise I will find some time to work on it for real when school officially ends.

Till next time,
cheers

City Duathlon Results

June 9th, 2008 No Comments »

Yes, the results are finally out! And guess what? I got an “incomplete lap count” and got taken out of the ranking. Looks like I was right to worry when the Championchip mat didn’t beep a second time. But they shouldn’t have placed it on the turn, where cyclist are taking a sharp turn and had to lift their leg away from the pedal. And I am not the only one in my category that had the problem, two others also had the same issue (though I am not sure if they really did one lap or the championchip mat didn’t work).

But anyway, that can’t be helped. So my unofficial ranking is actually 13th - with a timing of exactly 1 Hour 40 Seconds. But I suspect the timing is off - some of my friends told me that there was a time difference of 2 minutes between their watch and the time recorded by the system. Well, shall not go through the details again, you can read my race report and review here. Still waiting for photos.

Till next time,
cheers
